Relax - it's November! You've
harvested everything
dug the plot over completely
mulched heavily with a topping of high grade manure
planted a few broad beans and onions
fixed the hole in the greenhouse and the split in the polytunnel
lifted your dahlias
dried some seeds for next year
split your rhubarb crowns
organised a place in the shed for seed catalogues
had a (well-controlled) bonfire using only diseased or contaminated wood from the plot
paid your rent
Job done!* You can take a break now and enjoy the peace. Hasn't the weather been great and doesn't the site look beautiful in the Autumn sunshine?
Even if you don't do much you should come down and enjoy the scenery. Come on a weekend afternoon and you can also enjoy the bar!
* This list is a combination of little bits of advice from the National Allotment Society, nuggets of home grown wisdom from various members of the committee and massive amounts of wishful thinking.
Halloween!
At Moor Green, Halloween fell on the 2nd November - two days later than the rest of the world but well worth the wait. You can read a separate review of the Frenzies who provided the musical entertainment - non-stop and furious - for the whole evening , but the real entertainment came from the attendees - from our own community of party-loving nutters - who fully bought into the spirit of the occasion. The venue was rammed with many patrons boasting top end fancy dress, which included Ghosts, Witches, a Squid Game Warden, a Scarecrow, an inflated Marshmallow Man and (particularly apt for this years party) our presidential Orange Man Donald Trump! Here are just a few of them. Some of these people have a plot near you and normally look ..er..normal.
Big thanks also to Britt, Harvey and Kerryn for the pumpkin soups and Lianne for the cookies and candles - all Halloween related . This is what you missed if you couldn't make it.
The Frenzies - The Official Review!
Thanks to Trent Loom for this. With a different line up behind frontman Daz and no sign of their traditional double bass in sight, I was initially a bit anxious as to what to expect from The Frenzies set this Halloween, but I needn’t have worried!
The Frenzies kicked off their set with a great cover of The Cramp’s ‘Goo Goo Muck’ and before we next knew it we were being treated to ‘My Daddy is a Vampire’ and a huge array of other ghoulish classics!
Unlike the previous years monster mash up, it soon became apparent that frontman Daz & Co had no intention of breaking their set into two halves, so we rapidly sauntered into more familiar rockabilly territory as the genre hits kept coming and the band packed the dance floor with fiendish ease as a consequence!
Stand out cover performances for myself personally were ‘What’s Inside A Girl?’, ‘Stray Cat Strut’ and a particularly impressive live version of ‘Surfin Bird’, which proved to be a real rebel rouser and certainly had everyone moving!
The basslines churned out by the bassist and the tight beat maintained by their drummer were the perfect compliment for Daz’s awesome guitar and vocal performance throughout the entire gig too.
The set concluded with two punchy encores, between which the band didn’t lay down their strings or sticks to rest for even a minute and then boasted a volley of guitar ammo fire from Daz that was worthy of inclusion in a Tarantino movie soundtrack to my ears!
The Frenzies were better than ever and their entire set would have made for an excellent rock n roll warts and all Halloween live recording release, complete with Daz’s manic demonic laughing between numbers, from which he repeatedly desisted by suddenly yelling “Etc!”, prior to immediately launching into their next song throughout!!
That was an awesome gig!! Now go and tell all your fiends I told you so!!! 8/10.
Rent Collection
It's all over bar the shouting - and only a handful of tenants have left it until November. Many thanks to all the volunteers - principally Maureen, Deborah, Paul and David who did the actual collecting . And to the lovely plotholders who kept us chatting while coughing up the money. If you haven't paid now you're in for an extra payment of £10 imposed by the Council (don't blame us) but you can still pay us by BACs transfer. Just give your plot number as reference. Details below.

More Christmas Stuff
The amazing Pam (she's largely responsible for decorating the Clubhouse windows for the Produce Show and the Halloween night) is making a series of animal sculptures made from artificial Christmas trees to decorate the clubhouse over Christmas. You'll get the idea from the pics below.
Cute eh? And recycled so good for the planet. If anyone has an old artificial tree they no longer want, can you please get it to Pam by dropping it off at the clubhouse at the weekend? Thanks in advance.
That's it for this month fellow plotters. Enjoy the peace of your allotment in this lovely weather while it lasts. Who needs a German Market?
