Seasons Greetings fellow plotters. This is a short Newsletter because your editor is finding lots to do in the run up to Christmas. Not on the plot obviously. Like everyone else at Moor Green, he's abandoned cultivation, given that the ground has reverted to primeval swamp for a month or two and Storm Darragh has pretty much rearranged all the furniture on site. My neighbours' ploytunnel has decided to move in my direction but I'm sure they'll want it back. The great fence and camera security project (thanks again Big Lottery Fund!) is more or less complete - more on that in the next edition - so the team can stop doing death defying jobs like this .
Best to stay away from the great outdoors indoors for now - so the focus this month is on indoor entertainment. Firstly, thanks to all those who turned up for the jazz last Saturday. It was a great night.
The entire barrel of Bathams disappeared in three hours so that must have fuelled the joy a little, but mainly it's a terrific band and we're lucky to get them for no charge. Long may it continue!
And speaking of continuing great traditions , don't miss Saturday 14th December!
Christmas Craft Market
Turn up, mooch around, buy a few craft - y things for someone else's stocking, then indulge in a top drawer cake and cup of tea from Britt and her gang or just head for the bar and street food courtesy of the Streetballer gang
Or do all three. Repeatedly. We look forward to a full clubhouse!
Clubhouse Cinema - Christmas Special!
This is a first! Observant visitors to the Clubhouse will have noticed that we now have a big draw down screen at one end that we can use to project movies , pics , televised football matches onto. This month we're going to see if we can make some use of this by showing some Christmas films to our members and families on Sunday 22nd December. We're not entirely sure what the films will be but we aim to please a variety of our cinema going customers so the day will go like this.
5pm - Kid friendly, think Elf
7pm - Things get much less child friendly, think Bad Santa.
9pm+ it might be Cate Blanchet's favourite... but you have been warned!
And it's all free!
What's happening at Christmas?
Well, obviously Santa's coming down the chimney and everyone needs a bracing walk down to the allotment to clear the cobwebs, reduce emotional temperature around the Christmas tree, exercise the dog etc and just maybe visit the Clubhouse. Is it open and if so when? It is! Opening Hours as follows
Christmas Day - 12.00 midday to 5.00
Boxing Day 1.00 to 5.00
Any changes to that we'll let you know via Instagram. What Instagram I hear you say? (or what the hell is Instagram, I hear some of my age group saying). We now have a new official Moorgreen Instagram Account which you really should follow if you want to keep up with our latest news . This newsletter comes out once a month - the Instagram messages are much more frequent than that (and shorter...) You can access the link below.
And New Year's Eve ?
By the day after Boxing Day you'll be gagging to get down the plot for a bit of light mulching. But we still have some more indoor treats for you as well. Look at this night of entertainment to help you see in the New Year.
On New Year's Day itself one of our heroic and tireless bar volunteers says the bar is "likely closed but do peer through the window with caution." That sounds like a motto for all of 2025!
Finally
Wherever you are, have the very best of Christmases. If nothing else you can celebrate having a share of one of the best bits of countryside in Brum and being among some of the nicest people. Keep on plotting!
