8 Days to Go!

There isn't long now until the Annual (ish!) Moor Green Allotment Produce Show.

Join your fellow plot holders around the clubhouse Saturday 11th September from mid morning onwards for food, music, and the all important produce exhibition.

See below for the 2021 structure:

Presentation And Judging

Some Helpful Notes

This year, we have a slightly non-standard structure compared to traditional produce exhibition formats. The standard pattern for exhibiting in horticultural shows is for a specified number of examples in any class.

For example:

3 Cabbages

5 Potatoes

12 Runner Beans etc.

Judges are looking for identical specimens in the group, and the specific quality of each item. Marks being subtracted from the perfect 100.

What can I exhibit at Moor Green Produce Show 2021?

Booklets detailing each class may be browsed in the pavilion - we will try to email these out as soon as possible.

  • Plotholders exhibiting a single item, may if they wish enter under the appropriate class number, and it will be judged accordingly.

  • Assemblies of several different items are judged differently. There is no specifying of the numbers of any one type of produce. Judgement is based on the quality of each item displayed, and the visual impression that the display makes.

How will my produce / preserve / cake / creation be judged?

Being a Horticultural Show, the overall quality of every item is the dominant feature considered

Please note cakes may be cut and tasted. Jams may also be tasted.

In all cases the judges decisions are sovereign.

Unlike previous years, exhibits will not be collected together according to type, but scattered through the tent as people have arrived. Nor will they be anonymous, being labelled with plot number and names of the persons who have contributed to the display. The label may also be part of the display.

Is the event going to be socially distanced?

There is room for 10 individuals/groups to be present in the tent at any one time. With an average of 5 minutes each there is time between 9.00 & 11.00 for up to 240 exhibits.

For those unused to this sort of assembly exhibit an example will be set out on one of the pavilion tables this weekend.

Are there any special events that I can enter?

There will be special certificates for outstanding entries as follows:

  • Display by Individual plotholder

  • Display by a Couple ie any 2 adults working together

  • Display by Family ie 1 o r2 adults with 1or more children

  • Display by Group ie 3 or more adults, ( may include children)

At the judges discretion certificates may be awarded for outstanding individual items. Eg best plate of potatoes, whether stand alone or as part of a display.

For those interested in biggest, heaviest, longest; there will be a separate outside table.

We wish you all the best of luck, and will send more details out very soon. feel free to bring your friends, as the Pavilion Bar we all know and love will be open, with food also available from a variety of stalls.
